John Lennon Rickenbacker Wall Plaque
It was in 1960 that John first acquired (on credit), his 1958 Rickenbacker 325. It was in fact one of the first ever produced and was purchased from Musikhaus Rotthoff in Hamburg. George Harrison accompanied John to the shop that day and it must be assumed that he was influenced to some extent by George's enthusiasm for the instrument. It was used continuously for the next 4 years.
This Rickenbacker 325 is the guitar most closely associated with John and years later (despite his millionaire status), he proudly declared that it was his most valued possession.
In 1962 John decided to have the guitar painted; it was originally supplied to John in a 'natural' wood finish. The paint job (using Black Tekaloid Coach Paint), was painstakingly carried out in a garage in Birkenhead by Charles Bantam.
Two of the more unusual features of John's guitar are that it has four control switches, whereas most original 325 models have only two. Secondly, it has no 2 o'clock 'f' soundhole, which was a common feature on all but a few 325's made during that era.
